Unit 1: Prime Time
Big Idea: Students will study the structure of numbers and learn to classify numbers as prime, composite, and square. They will also learn how to solve problems related to the greatest common factor and least common multiple.
Student Learning Targets:
- I can classify numbers as prime, composite, even, odd or square.
- I can recognize that factors of a number occur in pairs.
- I can recognize situations that call for common factors and situations that call for common multiples.
- I can find the greatest common factor and least common multiple.
- I can write whole numbers as a product of prime numbers. (prime factorization)
- I can use exponential notation to write repeated factors.
- I can use the prime factorization of a number to find the least common multiple and greatest common factor.
- I can relate the area of a rectangle to the Distributive Property.
- I can write equivalent numerical expressions using the Order of Operations and the Distributive Property.
- I can solve problems involving the Order of Operations and Distributive Property.
